Rubber City Slow Cycle

Thanks to all who participated in the 2016 race. Dave Massary was the winner and holds the crown of being the sloooooowest cyclist in the Akron area. Keep on practicing on getting sloooower. We will see you in 2017.

cycling-races-450310_960_720Join us for a quirky and fun bike race. The principle of this race is quite simple. The loser wins. The winner is the cyclist who crosses the finish line in the slowest time.

Location: Lock 3 Park, 200 S Main St, Akron, OH at the Rubber City Bicycle Swap Meet
Entry Fee: $2 per entry
Grand Prize: 50% of Total Registration Fees Collected

Registration

Register at the Summit Cycling Center information booth at Lock 3 Park at the Rubber City Bicycle Swap Meet. Registration remains open until the last heat is called. Summit Cycling Center is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are tax deductible.

Slow Bike Race Rules

Bikes

  1. Bikes travel a flat 50 foot paved course marked with 3 foot lanes.
  2. Bikes must only travel forward. Going backward disqualifies the cyclist.
  3. One or two wheels are good. Three or more wheels are not allowed.
  4. Bike tires must be the only part of the bike to touch the ground.
  5. All forward motion must be provided by the cyclist.
  6. Bikes cannot leave their lane.
  7. Stopping, bouncing and track stands are allowed.

Cyclists

  1. Cyclists can enter the slow race multiple times. The registration fee is charged for each entry.
  2. Cyclists cannot touch other cyclists.
  3. Cyclists cannot touch the ground with their feet or anything on their person or bicycle.
  4. Cyclists must wear helmets.
  5. Disqualified cyclists must remain in the lane until the heat is finished.

Races

  1. Each rider is guaranteed to race a minimum of two heats through consolation rounds.
  2. Disqualified riders will also advance to consolation rounds.
  3. Last one across the finish line wins and advances to the next round of heats.
  4. Depending upon number of riders, second place will either advance or enter consolations.
  5. Grand prize will be awarded to the winner (last place) in the final heat.
  6. The judges decision is final.
