Wheels for Education  Bicycles

Summit Cycling Center assembles bicycles for the LeBron James Family Foundation Wheels for Education program.

LeBron and his foundation select a group of  students to be a part of Wheels for Education. These students begin each year with a two-week technology camp offered by Akron After School in partnership with the Foundation. Throughout the school year, the students receive support, encouragement and incentives; these interventions will continue throughout their journeys to graduation.

Wheels for Education Bicycle Tuning

Members gathered at Summit Cycling Center on July 9, 2015 to tune over 400 bikes to be distributed by the LeBron James Family Foundation Wheels for Education program.

2015 Rubber City Bicycle Swap Meet

April 18, 2015: Spring was in the air and cycling came to life at Lock 3 Park in Downtown Akron. The Rubber City Bicycle Swap Meet gave area cyclists a chance to buy, sell, or trade bicycles, cycling gear and one-of-a-kind items at rock-bottom prices. Matt Barry displayed his collection of classic Akron-made bicycles. Akron Bicycle Club and Spin-off Cyclists led rides out of Lock 3 through downtown streets and on the Towpath.

2015 Rubber City Slow Cycle

April 18, 2015: Members and guests took their chance on a quirky and fun bike race. The principle of this race is quite simple. The loser wins. The winner is the cyclist who crosses the finish line in the slowest time.

2014 Holiday Party

Members and guests attended the 2014 Summit Cycling Center holiday gathering at the Bike Kitchen at Lock 3. A potluck dinner with plenty of fun, fellowship and bike talk filled the evening. A short business meeting was held.Congrats to Pat Smith, the winner of our Jamis Allegro Comp bike raffle. Santa came early for her. Many thanks to our members who sold $750 worth of tickets. Thanks to the people who purchased tickets to support the mission of our cooperative. You can be assured the funds raised will be put to good use in our community.

2014 Cranksgiving

Icy roads greeted our Cranksgiving cyclists as they set out on the streets of Akron to visit local businesses. The temperature and their spirits rose as they filled their saddlebags and trunk bags. They shared bike talk over hot food and beverage on their return to the Bike Kitchen. The day was a success thanks to our members, partners and local business whose donations made it possible. We are especially appreciative of the cyclists who rode so that the less fortunate in our community can have a brighter holiday season.
